DREAM ENCOUNTER, Communiques from the Subconscious

This painting came from a recurring dream. In it, I would meet a kind man who smiled at me. I always smiled back, until suddenly, I saw my foot at his throat. I would wake up embarrassed and unsettled, wondering what it meant.

I began exploring the dream through painting. What surfaced surprised me: beneath the confusion was a mix of disappointment, anger, and loss. The flowers I added became symbols of how fragile love and trust are often beautiful but fleeting.

When I shared Dream Encounter in a group setting, most women thought the man deserved what he got and most men felt it showed how women want to put kick them when they’re down. Their reactions made me realize something essential about art. Once it’s seen, it becomes the  viewer’s story, not the artist’s.
